Presents
Social Thinking® Toolbox
Practical Strategies to
Target Social Learning Challenges in Individuals with Autism,
Aspergers and ADHD Across the Home and School Day
Designed for parents and professionals to understand the inner
minds of persons with social-learning weaknesses, this workshop
presents not only functional treatment strategies for use both
at school and at home, but also models for understanding why
these students react and respond the way they do.
The
core concepts of teaching Social Thinking® and related social
skills will be introduced and participants will explore teaching
social concepts in a manner that is sensitive to the
context/situation while considering what other people are
thinking and how one is expected to respond. We will demystify
why we need to teach more than "social skills" to our students
with near normal to way above normal verbal intelligence. We
will explore the ILAUGH model of Social Thinking that
demonstrates how social-processing difficulties limit not only
expected social skills, but also the ability to work as part of
a group and to focus on specific academic tasks, such as written
expression, reading comprehension and organizational skills.
Strategies for classroom management, such as teaching students
about blurting and ways to cope with the "boring moment," are
among the popular lessons. New practical strategies related to
these core issues, including Superflex®, friendship peer-a-mid
and spirals of social success/failure will also be a part of the
talk.
